THE SANDLOT (Ages 5 to 11)

“Injuries in young athletes are on the rise, but elbow and shoulder injuries in children are on the verge of becoming an
epidemic.”
 - STOP Sports Injuries

The Sandlot is a "Kid's First" developmental program that combines modern science with old-school baseball game play to minimize the rising “epidemic” of arm injuries, a disturbing phenomenon that “even those as young as 10 are experiencing”, according to Dr. Glenn Fleisig, the leading authority on pitching biomechanics.

Following a Dynamic Warm-up, each session includes the Paciorek Perfect Throwing Progression, the Soft Hands Catching & Routes Program and the BAT 1000 Skills & Drills.  Groups are then divided by age and skill level into two games, with every child having the opportunity to develop their individual skills by playing a new position each inning.  Nobody will be “stuck” in right field, nor will anyone be overused at increased risk positions like shortstop, catcher or pitcher.

BAT 1000 coaches will “shoulder” the pitching duties, and there are No Strikeouts and No Walks!  Both for safety and to keep the pace of the game moving, every hitter will have the opportunity to put the ball in play and run the bases during every at bat.  This also greatly reduces the likelihood of getting hit by a pitch, one of the biggest fears of the adolescent hitter.

As a developmental tool, BAT 1000 coaches will provide ongoing instruction to the players in the field, pausing the game play at times to focus on relevant game situations, specifically as it relates to the Skills and Drills covered in that week’s session.

The Sandlot is not focused on winning, regardless of the final score.  Teams will change weekly, and there are no records, batting averages, or “Win at all Costs” coaches.  The focus is 100% on developing each participant’s confidence and baseball skills.

For Little Leaguers, The Sandlot can provide additional game play in a more fun, fast paced, yet still competitive setting.  Players will continue to improve their game awareness in the field by rotating at different positions, and get additional productive at-bats to promote their hand-eye development with minimal conflict with their Little League schedules.

Each Sandlot session will include the Dynamic Warm up, the Throwing Progression & Soft Hands Catching Programs, plus a Skills & Drills focus, followed by 45 to 60 minutes of Game Play with ongoing instruction.  The final day of each session will feature the “BAT 1000 Championships”, along with throwing, running and agility contests and prizes.
